Touch place data: how it is made from OpenStreetMap Build v2.0+cat2 · tag rules 230e8d314999114170420a541d3722ae65b831ebdc2bd7a5025e6e5441f8bf49 · name-removal rules 2a40cccb79b2cab24bd0b90e758bd19af35c2f6451b012235a5ba6dc56c11bfb Source - All place data Touch shows is derived from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors), available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. - The input is Geofabrik's dated extract of Israel and Palestine (download.geofabrik.de/asia/israel-and-palestine-.osm.pbf), checked against its published md5, and Geofabrik's boundary polygon for it (israel-and-palestine.poly). Both are made by Geofabrik GmbH from OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors). - This method describes build v2.0+cat2, tag rules 230e8d314999114170420a541d3722ae65b831ebdc2bd7a5025e6e5441f8bf49 and name-removal rules 2a40cccb79b2cab24bd0b90e758bd19af35c2f6451b012235a5ba6dc56c11bfb. Which elements are read - Ways and relations are read when they carry one of these tags: amenity=cafe, amenity=bar, amenity=pub, amenity=restaurant, amenity=fast_food, amenity=biergarten, amenity=ice_cream, amenity=nightclub, amenity=theatre, amenity=cinema, amenity=arts_centre, amenity=community_centre, amenity=library, leisure=fitness_centre, leisure=sports_centre, tourism=museum, tourism=gallery, shop=mall, amenity=hospital, amenity=university, amenity=college, railway=station, public_transport=station, building=train_station, aeroway=aerodrome, leisure=stadium, building=stadium, leisure=park, leisure=garden, leisure=nature_reserve, natural=beach, place=square, landuse=recreation_ground. - Nodes are read when they carry one of these tags: amenity=cafe, amenity=bar, amenity=pub, amenity=restaurant, amenity=fast_food, amenity=nightclub, leisure=fitness_centre (place nodes), or railway=station, public_transport=station (station nodes). - For the town only, relations tagged boundary=administrative and admin_level=8 with a name tag are read, with their member ways. - Every element read keeps all its tags; they are used only for the rules below. No other element is read, and no metadata (authors, versions, edit times). - A way is an area when it is closed (its first and last node are the same) and is not tagged area=no. A relation is an area when it is tagged type=multipolygon or type=boundary and its member ways join into closed rings; members with the role inner are holes. Tag to kind table - Each element gets the kind and the tile drawing of the first row below whose tag it carries; an element matching no row is not used. - An element tagged temporary=yes (compared trimmed and in lower case) is not used. - amenity=cafe → kind cafe, tile cafe - amenity=bar → kind cafe, tile bar - amenity=pub → kind cafe, tile bar - amenity=restaurant → kind cafe, tile restaurant - amenity=fast_food → kind cafe, tile restaurant - amenity=biergarten → kind cafe, tile bar - amenity=ice_cream → kind cafe, tile cafe - amenity=nightclub → kind social, tile nightlife - amenity=theatre → kind social, tile arts - amenity=cinema → kind social, tile arts - amenity=arts_centre → kind social, tile arts - amenity=community_centre → kind social, tile community - amenity=library → kind social, tile community - leisure=fitness_centre → kind social, tile sports - leisure=sports_centre → kind social, tile sports - tourism=museum → kind social, tile museum - tourism=gallery → kind social, tile museum - shop=mall → kind mall, tile mall - amenity=hospital → kind hospital, tile none - amenity=university → kind university, tile campus - amenity=college → kind university, tile campus - railway=station → kind station, tile transit - public_transport=station → kind station, tile transit - building=train_station → kind station, tile transit - aeroway=aerodrome → kind airport, tile transit - leisure=stadium → kind stadium, tile sports - building=stadium → kind stadium, tile sports - leisure=park → kind park, tile none - leisure=garden → kind park, tile none - leisure=nature_reserve → kind park, tile none - natural=beach → kind park, tile none - place=square → kind park, tile none - landuse=recreation_ground → kind park, tile none Names - The name is the value of the first of these tags that is present: name, then name:en. The name is not changed. Town - The town of a place is read from the relations tagged boundary=administrative and admin_level=8 that carry a name tag. A relation without a name tag is ignored, for naming and for nesting, and so is one whose ways do not join into closed rings. - Of these areas, the ones that contain the place's point (the centre of its outline, or its node) are collected. - If none contains it, the place has no town. If exactly one does, or they form a single nested chain, each one inside the next, the innermost one names the town: a town inside its regional council gets the town, and a place inside a regional council only gets the council. - If any two of them are not nested in one another (side by side and overlapping, identical, or a containment that cannot be established), the place has no town. - An area lies inside another when every vertex of its outer rings is inside the other or within 10 m of one of the other's rings (shared borders), and no hole of the other has its first vertex inside it farther than 10 m from its rings. - The town is the area's name value, unchanged. A place in one of the name-removal categories below has no town. - Outside the covered area, the addr:city tag is stored as the town and is not shown. Name removal (sensitive places) - A place in one of these categories keeps its kind but loses its name, its tile drawing and its town: health, lgbtq, religion, social_care. A value listed after "not" below does not count (compared trimmed and in lower case). - health: amenity=hospital, or any healthcare tag, not "no". - lgbtq: a lgbtq or gay tag, or any tag whose key starts with lgbtq:, whose value (or any ;-separated part of it) is "primary", "only", "yes". - religion: amenity=college or university whose purpose tags (keys matching ^(college|school|education|university|operator)(:.+)?$) or names (keys matching ^(name|alt_name|official_name|old_name|short_name|loc_name|int_name|name_\d+)(:.+)?$) contain one of the training stems below; or any religion or denomination tag, not "no", "none", except an amenity=university that states no training and whose every name, folded and without non-letters, matches ^[a-z֐-׿؀-ۿЀ-ӿ]*$. - social_care: any social_facility tag, not "no". - Folding: Unicode NFKD, combining marks, invisible format characters and the Arabic tatweel removed, Persian yeh and keheh and the alef maksura written as the Arabic letters, then lower case. - Training stems (a regular expression, matched anywhere in the folded text): yeshiv|yechiv|jeschiw|jeshiv|semina|kollel|kolel|madras|medrash|midrash|midresh|mesivt|(?:^|[^a-z])torat|talmud|torah|mechin|mekhin|theolog|teolog|rabbin|divinit|bibl|uloom|hawza|sharia|pontific|islamic scienc|quran|qur'an|koran|dawa|da'wa|ecumen|hebrew union|beis yaakov|beit yaakov|bais yaakov|beth jacob|בית יעקב|ישיב|כולל|מדרש|סמינר|תלמוד|תורה|תורני|אולפנ|מכינ|شريع|حوز|دار العلوم|لاهوت|قران|دعوة|دعوه|العلوم الاسلامي|ديني|مدرسه\s*ي?\s*علميه|семинар|духовн|богослов Outlines - An outline of more than 400 vertices is thinned uniformly, ring by ring, keeping each ring's first and last vertex. Each ring keeps its share of the 400-vertex budget in proportion to its size, but never fewer than 4 vertices (a smaller ring is kept whole), so an outline of many rings can keep more than 400 vertices in total. - A place mapped as a node is a circle of 40 m around it (100 m for stations and airports). An outline's area and centre are computed from it. Cells - Places are indexed by geohash cells of precision 7 (rasteriser version 1). - A cell lists exactly these places: areas that contain the cell's centre; areas with a node inside the cell or an edge crossing it; place nodes within the larger of 40 m and half the cell's diagonal of its centre; station nodes within the larger of 100 m and half the cell's diagonal. Covered area - A cell is answered from this database only when all four of its corners lie inside Geofabrik's boundary polygon and its centre is farther from the polygon's edge than half the cell's diagonal, plus the larger of 40 m and 100 m, plus 1000 m. - Outside the covered area, the same rules are applied to OpenStreetMap data fetched on demand from the Overpass API for the areas Touch needs. The list of areas fetched is never part of this offer. Additions - Touch adds no non-OSM content.
